You might be having a heatwave wherever you are in the UK, however up in the Scottish highlands, it’s grey and very cold. The penultimate day was pretty straightforward, following roads out of Wick, and along a beach.
It was a cooler day today, and the path was a lot easier to walk on. That meant I had a great pace today, walking over cliffs for the third day running.
It was a hard day today. The cliffs returned, resulting in lots of up and downs, and it’s been a hot day too. But it was all very rewarding, with spectacular views.
One final rest day before the finish, and I have spent it stocking up on supplies. Sadly, I wasn’t as organised when I was last in Inverness, so I’ve had to go back there today to sort myself out.
It’s the beginning of the end, as I head along the John O’Groats Trail all the way to John O’Groats. Today was a very short day however, due to the lack of accommodation along this stretch.
Day 4 on the Great Glen Way, where I reached the highest point of the trail. Other than great views of Loch Ness at the top, today wasn’t particularly exciting.
Day 3 on the Great Glen Diversion, yes another diversion today. There’s a high route which is meant to be beautiful that I wanted to walk, but no, it’s closed.
Day 2 on the Great Glen Way, which was a relatively short one. I’ve reached Fort Augustus, the half way point and also the biggest settlement on the trail.
Day 1 on the Great Glen Way, and it was a long day to start, following canals and walking along forest tracks. This was rewarded with excellent views of canals and Loch Lochy.
Day 6 on the West Highland Way, the final day. It’s been a mixture of weather again as I tackled the final leg of the trail all the way to Fort William.
