Day 91: Dornoch to Golspie

A glorious day of walking! The sun has been out all day and it’s definitely got a lot warmer. The scenery has also improved.

  • Date: 19 June 2024
  • Start: Dornoch
  • End: Golspie
  • Miles: 14.1
  • Total miles: 1,195.0
  • Accommodation: The Bannockburn Inn

It was actually too warm when I woke up in the tent this morning. Rather than not wanting to get out of my sleeping bag, I couldn’t wait to get out of the tent.

I set off towards the beach at Dornoch, and followed a golf course as I headed towards Embo.

I then headed through some grassy fields, before coming across a viewpoint of Dornoch Firth.

After a long road walk, I headed into some undergrowth next to the A9 before rejoining my favourite road as I crossed a small bridge.

The trail then headed across some farm fields with cows in them. The gates between the fields were also locked, so I had to climb over them, which is allowed in Scotland. A group of cows weren’t too happy about this and charged at me. I made it out of the field, but it was quite a terrifying experience. Sadly, I’m expecting more cow fields in the next few days.

I was relieved to make it back onto a road and back through a lovely looking forest. The day ended by walking across another golf course next to the beach and into Golspie.

I had a couple of hours to wait until the train to Helmsdale, so I popped into a pub while I waited.

I headed to Helmsdale where I’ll be spending the next few days. Tomorrow, I’ll get the train back to Golspie to continue my walk.
