Day 82: Great Glen Way - Fort Augustus to Alltsigh
Day 3 on the Great Glen Diversion, yes another diversion today. There’s a high route which is meant to be beautiful that I wanted to walk, but no, it’s closed.
- Date: 10 June 2024
- Start: Fort Augustus
- End: Alltsigh
- Miles: 11.7
- Total miles: 1,101.9
- Accommodation: Lochside Hostel
I had a fantastic night sleep last night in the hostel. I must have slept for over 10 hours. After a lazy start, I headed to the local Spar to pick up supplies for the next couple of days, then headed out of Fort Augustus.
The high route was closed, so I had to take the boring low route. I still got good views of Loch Ness, but my mate Nessie was nowhere to be seen.
There were plenty of people on day cruises on Loch Ness. What’s the point? You aren’t going to see anything you won’t see on the land, the monster isn’t real.
I headed down into Invermoriston via a large forestry operation, where I sat down for lunch.
There was a steep climb up a road and onto a hill, where the path led into some very different scenery than what I’ve had so far. It was nice for it to be mixed up a bit.
I then headed down a track to the hostel, where I was able to chill and drink free coffee until I could check in. The hostel is situated right on Loch Ness.
The hostel was nice and peaceful until a huge tour group showed up, took over the place, and stole my seat in the lounge, so I had to move.
I’ll spend the evening chilling in the hostel by the shore of Loch Ness, trying to make sure my seat doesn’t get stolen.
