Day 75: West Highland Way - Inverarnan to Bridge of Orchy
Day 4 on the West Highland Way, and it was another glorious one. The loch is behind me now, as I travel up through forests and towards the mountains.
- Date: 3 June 2024
- Start: Inverarnan
- End: Bridge of Orchy
- Miles: 18.5
- Total miles: 1,014.9
- Accommodation: Wild Camp
The surroundings as we packed up at this mornings campsite were beautiful. The sun was just rising above the hills and it was all very calm.
The journey to Crianlarich, which marks the half way point along the trail, was very scenic. My only issue was having to crawl through a tunnel under a railway. Not easy when you have a large backpack on.
We then entered a forest, which again was fantastic scenery, apart from the deforestation work going on in some places.
We arrived at our lunch stop at Tyndrum, which was effectively a service station with loads of tourists about. I couldn’t really decide what I wanted to eat, so ended going up and buying food three times. I did get my first ice cream of the walk though.
Back to the walk, and we powered along a track to the Bridge of Orchy, which is basically a bridge over a river, with a hotel nearby and a picnic area in which you can wild camp on.
We were the first there, but I didn’t want to be the first to set up camp, so we waited for someone else to set up their tent, then we did ours.
Tomorrow is the penultimate but hardest and longest day of the West Highland Way. With the weather also being poor, it’s going to be a tough one.
Today was another milestone, I’m now three quarters of the way through the whole walk, and I’ve passed the 1,000 mile mark!

Well done Danny (and Julie)

Thanks! It was a beautiful day in terms of scenery, but rather challenging on the weather front!
