Day 28: Regil to Bristol
I’m back in Bristol two days later. Although to mix things up, this time I’m not staying with friends, but in a hostel in the city centre.
- Date: 17 April 2024
- Start: Regil
- End: Bristol
- Miles: 14.6
- Total miles: 325.3
- Accommodation: YHA Bristol
It was very cold last night, one that kept waking me up. Even though I woke up before my alarm this morning, it took me a while it actually get up, as I didn’t want to get out of my cosy sleeping bag. I made my porridge and coffee while still in the sleeping bag, then eventually got myself out of the tent and on my way.
Today was a walk of two halves, the first being the countryside south of Bristol. It was a glorious morning as I headed through fields, tracks and roads. It was a very peaceful morning, only spoiled by the constant planes coming into land at Bristol Airport. Shortly, Bristol in all its glory came into view.
On entering Bristol, I passed through Ashton Court and walked over the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Even though I lived here for 8 years, I feel a little bit like a tourist.
For the next few miles, I was walking in suburban Bristol, which was incredibly dull. I finished today in Henbury, just past Blaise Castle.
I got the bus into the city centre and checked into the hostel. Like yesterday, I’m pretty exhausted again. It’s amazing how 4 days off can reset your fitness levels. My legs are hurting like they hurt on day 2, and blisters are starting to reappear. I best not take any more extended time off!
I did, however, go to get some food and had a beer in the hostel bar, virtually bought by my old boss Laura, thanks!
I then just hung out at the hostel for the rest of the night. Sorry to those I’ve not seen in Bristol!
Before I started this walk, I said to myself that if I reach Bristol, then I’ll make it all the way. The last week hasn’t been great, but I’m confident I’ll make it to the end.
Tomorrow, it’s time to leave England for a bit, as I cross the bridge to Wales 🏴.

Glad to hear your foot is holding up
