Day 89: Evanton to Tain

Apologies for the delay, I had bad phone signal at last night’s campsite. I’m thinking this will probably be a recurring theme as I head north.

  • Start: Evanton
  • End: Tain
  • Miles: 19.8
  • Total miles: 1,174.2
  • Accommodation: Dornoch Firth Caravan Park

This was the last long day of the walk, and it felt long. All day I was on long back roads and forest paths, so the day dragged. At least it wasn’t as wet.

I started off leaving the comfort of my pod to walk along a cycle track to the next town of Alness. Here I picked up lunch and was on my way again.

The road out of Alness continued for miles and miles, before the path ventured into a forest. While beautiful, it did have a number of obstacles to overcome.

I then headed back onto the road, past an old mill and into another forest, which led me into the town of Tain. Here, I went to a big Tesco to get dinner and supplies.

I had a couple of miles left before I got to my campsite, which involved joining the side of the A9 for a bit. This is going to happen at various points over the next few days, and is always a bit scary.

I got to camp, popped the tent up, had a shower, then made some pasta. Other than that, it was an uneventful evening.

I met a guy at the campsite who I chatted to for a while (mainly because he wouldn’t shut up). He was very impressed with my challenge, and as I reward, he invited for me to go to Glastonbury in association with a brewery he is involved with. As much as that would have been great, I’m still walking, and of course this takes priority!
