Day 74: West Highland Way - Rowardennan to Inverarnan

Day 3 on the West Highland Way, and it was back along Loch Lomond for the entire day. It’s a long loch!

  • Date: 2 June 2024
  • Start: Rowardennan
  • End: Inverarnan
  • Miles: 13.4
  • Total miles: 996.4
  • Accommodation: Beinglas Campsite

It was good to be inside last night, just to get away from the midges. My arms and legs are covered in little bites. They are absolutely everywhere, even on the seal of this window!

The hostel provided a do it yourself breakfast this morning, so I had some scrambled eggs, then we headed off back alongside the loch. We immediately bumped into another honesty box, and this one was fancy.

The path split into a high and low route. The high route was actually just a track, so we took the low route which was far more interesting. We needed to navigate lots of rocks and tree roots, but it all made it more exciting.

There’s no shops on the route, so we stopped for lunch at a hotel, which seemed to do a roaring trade with all of the walkers coming in. There was a room to put your bag and boots, and even a room to eat your own food if you had it.

We continued alongside the edge of Loch Lomond, and along the tricky path, until we reached the top.

We then headed uphill where we took a break in a bothy, as it had started raining outside. There were some great views of the loch from here.

We then descended into camp, which was huge. After setting up the tent, we headed to the onsite pub for food, along with seemingly everyone else.
