Day 59: Pennine Way - Once Brewed Rest Day

Unfortunately, today I had to have an unplanned rest day. I was up most of the night with a stomach bug, and wasn’t feeling great this morning either.

I spent most of the morning in my hostel bed feeling sorry for myself. Once I felt that I didn’t need to run to the toilet anymore, I ventured out to get some food. 

There’s nothing around where I’m staying other than the pub, but there are buses to the town of Hexham. I headed to Hexham, got some food and did some shopping at Tesco. 

It’s actually been a glorious day, with the people of Hexham walking round with their tops off. No one wants to see this, seriously. 

I headed to the bus station to get the last bus back to the hostel at half 4, however it was cancelled. The bus drivers had said the road had been closed, as there was an emergency situation going on near Hadrian’s Wall. It was reported that someone had drowned, which is pretty awful.

Fortunately, I was able to catch a train to a nearby village and then walk a few miles from there. Even though it took a while, it was a glorious evening. 

It should be back to business tomorrow, as I’m feeling a lot better this evening.
