Day 53: Pennine Way - Tan Hill to Middleton-in-Teesdale
Day 9 on the Pennine Way, and it was a bit of a dull ish one compared to the day before. I headed to Middleton-in-Teesdale, where I’ll be taking a day off.
- Date: 12 May 2024
- Start: Tan Hill
- End: Middleton-in-Teesdale
- Miles: 16.5
- Total miles: 707.1
- Accommodation: Daleview Caravan Park
The day started off very strangely at the pub, as for the first 6 miles, I was heading downhill. It was a very boggy start, and it was starting to get frustrating, but it turns out they diverted the bottom half into a farm track, presumably because it’s so boggy.
At the bottom, I reached and sat by a river where I had some snacks before setting off up the first of 4 hills.
The rest of the day consisted of climbing up and down small hills, with not really a lot to see in between.
I approached Middleton-in-Teesdale, where I set up camp and met three others who were walking the Pennine Way, but in the opposite direction. Then my friend Rhona arrived to visit me, and we headed to the caravan park pub for a drink.
We went into town for some food, which was rather quiet. At this point it started hammering down with rain, and we got soaked walking back to the campsite. Luckily I have tomorrow to let things dry before walking again on Tuesday.
