Day 46: Pennine Way - Torside to Marsden
Day 2 on the Pennine Way, and it was another hard one. The sun was out all day, which made for some fantastic views.
- Date: 5 May 2024
- Start: Torside
- End: Marsden
- Miles: 18.9
- Total miles: 588.5
- Accommodation: Colne Valley Campsite
The campsite last night was a bit grim. It was loud, and there were no showers or drinking water as advertised. So, as I set off today, I had to take a detour via Tesco to stock up on water. I then headed back along a cycle path to where I left the Pennine Way yesterday.
I crossed a reservoir to start my day back on the Pennine Way.
I then started the big climb of the day. It was already really warm, so I was sweating buckets. There were plenty of people about as well, probably more than yesterday.
Once I reached the first peak, I was then back to crossing the boggy moors, a theme continued from yesterday, to the highest point of today’s walk.
After the descent, I crossed a main road then walked around several reservoirs before ending the day.
I headed to my camp which is just outside of Marsden, put my tent up, and cleaned myself off with some dry soap. I was aware this campsite didn’t have a shower, but it also didn’t have the drinking water tap as advertised. Instead, the owners have left loads of plastic water bottles instead. Excellent for the environment.
I then headed into Marsden along a canal path, got some food from the kebab shop, went to get my food for tomorrow, then retreated quickly back to camp to avoid all of the people who’ve clearly been drinking all day.
It’s another long day on the Pennine Way tomorrow, although I shouldn’t be ascending as much. At least I’ll definitely get a shower tomorrow.
