Day 38: Coalport to Bishop’s Wood

Today’s walk has been the dullest so far, the main highlights being lost in a golf course, followed by cows and seeing a horse.

  • Date: 27 April 2024
  • Start: Coalport
  • End: Bishop’s Wood
  • Miles: 15.6
  • Total miles: 473.3
  • Accommodation: White Pump Farm

The hostel kitchen was very busy this morning, full of people ready to go on some walks. I left a little later than usual, as there’s no rush to get to camp given there’s nothing around there.

I started by climbing a very steep hill, the only proper hill of the day, to a golf course, which I then got lost in.

After finding my way out of the golf course, I then had to cross a field of cows, who decided to follow me closely out to the other side of the field.

I passed through the village of Kemberton, which was very quiet today, but won’t be tomorrow. It’s a good job I didn’t pass through tomorrow otherwise I’d have been joining a race.

I then walked along various roads and tracks until I reached an old church, the White Ladies Priory. I decided to have lunch in this beautiful old ruin and spotted something in the corner of my eye.

I grabbed the box and had a good look inside, signing my name into the book (I didn’t manage to get the stamp the right way around…).

After lunch, I walked the last few miles to the campsite, which is directly alongside the A5.

There’s nothing around here, so I kept warm in my tent, and did some reading of my upcoming trek along the Pennine Way. I had a beautiful slop of tinned chilli con carne and instant mash potato for dinner, which was actually pretty tasty.

Then it was time to call it a night. Tomorrow’s route should be a bit more exciting as I head over Cannock Chase.
