Day 36: Knighton to Church Stretton
Not a particularly exciting day today, but it was a long one. My feet for the last few miles were very sore, most likely because I was walking on a lot of hard surfaces today.
Tonight, I am camped by a lake and it’s bloody cold and I’m the only one here. I did have a nice warm shower before making dinner and then snuggled up in my sleeping bag.
- Date: 25 April 2024
- Start: Knighton
- End: Church Stretton
- Miles: 20.6
- Total miles: 439.7
- Accommodation: Church Stretton Camp
The day started out with an enormous climb, one that I’d actually done before. I stayed in a cottage near Knighton a few years ago and we walked from it to Knighton and back. This was the route we took. I could just make the cottage out when I reached the top of the hill.
The climb down was quite painful, on a hard track. I then had another big climb, although not quite as big. Once down, I mainly walked on roads to get to Craven Arms. Today’s route isn’t on any special trails, so the footpaths are mixed, with quite a few roads thrown in.
Once I arrived at Craven Arms, I grabbed dinner and lunch for tomorrow then headed on the final 7 miles stretch to camp, through crop fields, woods and over a ford.
