Day 18: Wimbleball Lake to West Bagborough
A pretty quiet day mostly following roads through villages until I reached the side of the Quantock Hills.
The rest of the day was interchangeable between footpaths and the road as I joined the West Deane Way, a circular route that starts in Taunton and circles the nearby countryside. As I approached camp, the Quantock Hills came into view, much less impressive than I last remember them. A good job, as I’m only going around the base of them tomorrow.

I set off by walking around Wimbleball Lake, which I’d spent camping on the shore of last night. It was a very murky morning, with occasional rain. The first part of the day was mainly on road, slightly dull, but it does avoid the mud.
I then came off road, through a forest, and around another lake.
Once I’d set up camp, I headed to the nearby pub. The villages around here don’t have footpaths, so you need to walk on the side of the road. A car that went past me came a little too close and knocked my arm. It was a little sore, but was ok. Would have been nice if the driver actually stopped though.
I had a couple of pints in the pub, one of which someone else bought for me, not because of the walk I’m doing, but because I’m Welsh. They’d stopped serving food, so I headed back and got the stove out, then called it a day.
