Day 6: Perranporth to Newquay
A return to Perranporth yesterday to complete the section to Newquay.
- Date: 26 March 2024
- Start: Perranporth
- End: Newquay
- Miles: 9.9
- Total miles: 65.3
- Accommodation: Newquay International Backpackers
I hopped on the bus in the morning from Newquay back to Perranporth, which was actually very busy on arrival. Apparently it is one of the best and biggest beaches in Cornwall, so lots of people were making the most of the nice weather. I spent the first few miles interchanging between walking on the beach and the sand dunes behind.
I then made it up onto the first headland I’d need to go around, which had great views of the beach and also a colony of seals.
After going around another headland, I then needed to cross the Gannel, a river estuary that can only be crossed in certain sections depending on the tide. Luckily the tide was out when I got there, but still the first crossing was underwater. So I walked along the beach to get to the second crossing which was just above water, and made my way back into Newquay.
I’ve got one final night in Newquay before I head onto my next stop of Treyarnon.

Remember that path as a rainy soggy bastard! Take care
ReplyDeleteIt was actually a really nice day and pretty hard ground given how the rest of the walk has been.
