Day 4: Portreath to Perranporth
A beautiful shorter day along the clifftops, trying to finish before the rain hit.

- Start: Portreath

I needed to make some decisions when I woke up in the morning, as there was very heavy rain coming in from about 4pm today until 11pm tomorrow. I didn’t particularly want to camp tonight if the weather was going to be wet all night, plus it was cold and my laundry wasn’t drying either.
My intention was to get to Perranporth and then jump on the bus to Newquay for the night, before getting the bus back to Perranporth to continue where I left off. There was a guy from Berlin at the campsite who was also considering his options, instead deciding to do two days of walking in one to get to shelter in Newquay, not an option I wanted to consider this early in the walk.
There were no buses on Sunday’s, so I walked back into Portreath to the point where I got on the bus to the campsite yesterday to start today’s walk. It was very up and down all day, part of the charm (not) of the South West Coast Path.
The sun popped out for most of the day, which actually felt quite warm on a cold day. Given it was the weekend, there were plenty of people about. It was an all round splendid walk.
I reached Perranporth at lunch time, had some lunch and waited for the bus to take me to Newquay. As I waited for the bus, the rain started coming in, so it was definitely good timing!
I made it to my hostel in Newquay, which was very welcome given the weather outside.
As part of this walk, I’ve decided that I’ll take a rest day every week or so. Given the weather forecast for tomorrow, now might be that time to take a rest day, although a bit earlier than I expected.
