Day 2: Pendeen to St Ives
The second day was a lot harder than the first, even though it was only three more miles. Lots of up and downs and also lots of mud.
- Date: 22 March 2024
- Start: Pendeen
- End: St Ives
- Miles: 14.0
- Total miles: 25.2
- Accommodation: Ayr Holiday Park
I woke up at 6am to the sound of rain on the tent. I suspect it had been raining a while as the tent was pretty wet when I got up. Due to the dampness, I packed up and skipped breakfast and headed to the Spar next door to raid their reduced section. I got a variety of pasties plus some hummus which would see me through the day.
I then headed back out along the South West Coast Path, where it rained for the next two hours.
The rain stopped and the sun started to show about 10am, which was very welcome. However, as the weather has been very poor recently, the path was somewhat water logged in a lot of places. If there wasn’t water, then it was lots of mud, which made progress slow.
I slipped many times in the relentless mud, and even fell over twice, once landing on my back and then by doing a side roll. Maybe I should invest in some walking poles if this continues.
When I had chance to look up from the muddy path, I was treated to great views out to sea, passing Zennor and into St Ives.
I turned up at the only campsite in town, Ayr Holiday Park, put the tent up to dry, showered and headed out to have some food.

You got this Danny! Super proud of you!!
