Day 11: Bude to Hartland

A very tough day physically, with lots of ups and downs. It’s apparently the hardest day of the South West Coast Path, and I’m not disagreeing.

  • Date: 31 March 2024
  • Start: Bude
  • End: Hartland
  • Miles: 17.1
  • Total miles: 150.1
  • Accommodation: Hartland Campsite

I woke up slightly later this morning due to the clocks changing and it being dark until after 7, so got going at 8. I covered the two miles back to the South West Coast Path from the campsite via road and was thrown straight into it.

For all my time on the South West Coast Path today, I had to cross 10 valleys, with steep ups and downs on either side of each. My guide book says this is one of the hardest sections of the whole walk, and also the hardest of the South West Coast Path. I believe it.

At the bottom of one of the valleys, I crossed a bridge where I left Cornwall and arrived in Devon. I’ll be in Devon now for at least the next week. I then finished off the section on the South West Coast Path before going via road to my campsite.

Once the tent was up and I’d had a shower, I fancied a pub meal, however it being Easter Sunday, the pubs were all rammed. I had a quick pint before getting some pasties from the shop and then calling it a night.
