Day 10: Boscastle to Bude
A day of two halves. The first half was beautiful walking, the second half not so much.
- Date: 30 March 2024
- Start: Boscastle
- End: Bude
- Miles: 17.3
- Total miles: 133.0
- Accommodation: Wooda Campsite
What was meant to be a sunny day without rain today was completely untrue, as when I just went to put my tent down this morning, it started raining. I did see a cool rainbow though.
After a delayed start, I got back on to the South West Coast Path and ascended the cliffs, getting to what is apparently the highest point in Cornwall. Also, no mud in sight! I eventually made it to Crackington Haven, where I had a rest and a bacon butty.
After the bacon butty, things took a different turn, where I walked through liquid mud for miles. There was also the constant up and downs. I can see why this is one of the most challenging walks of the entire journey. Eventually I made it to Widemouth Beach, just before Bude. I then continued to Bude, but gave up on the South West Coast Path after falling into a bush of thorns, due to slipping on mud, and retreating to the road. I eventually made it to the campsite to clean up.
Tomorrow is another hard day, again one of the most challenging of the entire walk.
